LIFESTYLE DISPENSING

Our highly trained optical dispensers offer one on one lens consultations as part of our lifestyle dispensing. During this consult we talk about you, your lifestyle, and figure out the best possible lens solution to suit your needs.

ANTI-FATIGUE

Anti-Fatigue lenses are the solution to the digital age. Whatever your age or lifestyle, there is no way of avoiding screens. We are exposed to multiple screens during the day including; smartphones, televisions, tablets and computers.

It is no surprise that staring at screens throughout the day can be hard on your eyes and causing digital eye strain — even if you don’t currently wear glasses.

The reason this is causing digital eye strain is simple, screens are small, bright and we spend a lot of time staring at them. This constant convergence makes our eyes work a lot harder than they should. Prolonged usage of screens can lead to eye strain which can cause loss of concentration, dry eyes, headaches, back pain and blurred vision.

At Hansen Optometrists, we offer a great range of lens solutions to prevent all symptoms of digital eye strain. These special lenses coupled with Blue Light Control coatings help to reduce the harmful blue light emissions from digital screens.

BLUE LIGHT CONTROL

WHAT IS BLUE LIGHT?

Blue light is a part of the visible light spectrum; it has the shortest wavelength and highest amount of energy.

There has been a lot of interest in this topic recently due to our ever digitalising world. Digital devices emit man-made blue light, which in itself causes problems which we will now discuss.

WHERE IS BLUE LIGHT FOUND?

Blue light is a naturally occurring phenomenon in nature (sourced mainly from the sun). Blue violet light emitted from the sun regulates circadian rhythm (the body’s natural sleep pattern). However, when it is artificially created from digital screens it then can cause problems.

It is important to note, display screens on digital devices emit only a fraction of that of the sun, but the amount of time that people spend using these screens and how close they are when they’re using them are what we are concerned with. Excessive HEV light exposure from digital screens such as TV’s, computers, smartphones and tablets can have an adverse effect on your eyes, causing digital eye strain, headaches, and physical/mental fatigue. This is because the eye is not very good at blocking out this spectrum of light, and virtually all visible blue light passes through the cornea and reaches the retina.

WHAT’S THE SOLUTION?

The easiest way to reduce exposure is by using a blue light filter or a yellow tint in your glasses (even if you don’t necessarily wear them). It is better to use a proper blue light control coating however because they maximise the benefits of digital devices, while reducing the risks associated with them. At the same time, these coatings let in the good light that regulates normal sleep pattern and mood, this then boosts brain activity and function.

By choosing a blue light control coating such as Blue Control, you are protecting your eyes on a daily basis and maintaining your long term eye health.

See below how this lens works and why it is so important to reduce exposure as much as possible.

MULTIFOCALS

Multifocal lenses are a visual solution for all distances without the need to change glasses. These lenses offer a gradual curvature across the lens surface, giving the wearer clear vision in every zone that they desire.

These lenses are here to replace bifocals or trifocals, using the latest in technology to correct refractive errors like presbyopia (age-related farsightedness, common in people over the age of 40).

OUR GUARANTEE

We guarantee 100% multifocal satisfaction or we will replace it for free.

CUSTOM DESIGNS

When we refer to custom mapping, we’re talking about a unique scanning system called the Visioffice® System which creates a unique optical solution for every patient.

This machine measures how the frame is positioned on your face using the most natural position of your head, this then produces your lenses incorporating these found measurements.

It also recommends the best visual solution for any given prescription or lifestyle type, the patient then ends up with the most precise and individualised vision in each direction.

These measurements collect data from the unique code now found in each eye (kind of like a 3D blueprint) which is then used to perfectly calculate the design for your vision.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The patient moves the position of their head in slight variants, The Visioffice® System then measures not only where your eye is positioned, but how far away they will be from the back of the lens.

Using technology like this, will give your the best possible vision no matter where you look — instantly and effortlessly.

Recording and performing up to 20 measurements, it measures the real 3D position of the wearers eyes and their unique eye rotation center (ERC), creating one off the most individualised lenses possible.

THIN & LIGHT LENSES

HIGH INDEX LENSES

High Index lens materials are a relatively new technology in the world of optics. They are made with dense materials which bends the light in a more efficient way, creating thinner and lighter lenses.

These lenses are ideal for patients with higher prescriptions as they will be up to 30% thinner and flatter than standard lens materials traditionally used. This will also improve the cosmetic appearance and weight factor associated with higher prescriptions, which usually can cause them to slip (due to the weight) and leave indents.

Being significantly thinner and lighter than conventional lens materials, the structural integrity of the lens is not affected in any way; in fact, these lenses are actually proven to be up to 10 times stronger than ordinary lenses. This strength is due to the technological developments in the way in which the lens is made.

NO MORE ‘COKE BOTTLE’ GLASSES

In the past there was no other solutions for people with high prescriptions, these lenses were thick, heavy and gave a ‘glass bottle’ appearance. However, with this innovation in lens technology, patients with strong prescriptions can get more attractive glasses which are just as effective. It is recommended for all patients with high prescriptions to get their glasses equipped with an anti-reflective coating.

ASPHERIC DESIGN

Leading the way in lens innovation are aspheric lenses, the new way to see through single vision lenses distortion free.

This type of lens is custom made to a patient's specific measurements. By having a lens custom made it greatly reduces the edge distortion of the lens (the blurry sections) no matter the direction in which you gaze. The patient then gets a far wider field of view, and improved peripheral vision then they had in a previous ‘conventional’ single vision lens design. The patient will then get a significantly improved quality of the image that they see.

The advancement in optical design technology in aspherical lenses allows your new lenses to be made thinner and flatter, giving them a slimmer, more cosmetically appealing look. These designs are the go to for people with higher prescriptions because they eliminate the ‘bug eye’ appearance that can occur with such prescriptions.

LENS TREATMENTS

MULTICOATING

Living in Australia it is extremely important that our eyes are protected, this is why we must always make sure our glasses come with 100% UV protection.

There is a number of ways we can protect our eyes from the sun, but the easiest way is by getting multi coating, or anti-reflection coatings on our glasses.

This coating is ideal for anyone who is light sensitive or spends any time in or outdoors.

These coatings are much harder than older multi coatings and will significantly improve scratch resistance, making them also easier to clean. They will also increase your clarity of vision by allowing 15% more light into the back of the retina. This will then improve your night vision and reduce reflective light from computer screens, down-lights, street lights and headlights off cars.

PHOTOCHROMIC

Photochromic is a term used for lenses that react to the sun's ultraviolet rays causing the lens to change colour into a sunglass tint.

These lenses need UV to react, so despite them changing to a dark tint outdoors, they are clear indoors making them convenient for any age or lifestyle.

These lenses are great for active lifestyle and have 100% UV protection as well making them are a great addition to your every day spectacles.

WHAT COLOURS DO THEY COME IN?

The colours currently available in this lens range are; brown, grey and green.

CONTACT LENSES

We have a full range of all the latest disposable contact lenses from all the major manufacturers. Our range includes daily disposables, two weekly disposables, monthly disposable and custom conventional lenses, to correct short-sightedness (myopia), long-sightedness (hyperopia) and astigmatism. New materials and designs are released on a regular basis. Even if you were not suitable for contacts lenses in the past you may well be now with these new materials and lens designs.

To determine the best lens design, material and type of soft contact lenses for your eyes and your visual needs we provide a free contact lens fitting trail.

TYPES

RGP AND HYBRID CONTACT LENSES

We are one the few practices in the Central West that can fit RGP and specialty hybrid hard contact lenses. RGB lenses allow for superior vision and eye health outcomes and are used specifically for Keratoconus and Ortho-K (orthokeratology).

Hybrid lenses have revolutionised contact lens wear for people with mild to moderate keratoconus and high astigmatism. They have a RGB centre, to give the best possible clear vision, with soft contact lens material around this to give improved comfort and fit. If you have ever had problems with stability of vision in your contact lenses, hybrid lenses may be for you.

MULTIFOCAL CONTACT LENSES

Multifocal contact lenses are designed for people over 40 who need reading glasses, or need a different prescription for close focus than for long distance. The multi-focus nature of these lenses allow you to see clearly at any distance, without the hassle of glasses. Even if you only need glasses for reading, you can still wear contact lenses!

Multifocal lenses are also for children with short-sightedness who require myopia control treatment.

ORTHOKERATOLOGY

WHAT IS ORTHOKERATOLOGY?

Orthokeratology or Ortho-K is a specialised area of contact lens fitting where a small rigid lens is worn by the patient over night while asleep.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

This lens acts as a mould that will very slightly reshape the front surface of the eye, correcting a person’s short-sightedness and astigmatism so that when they get up in the morning and take out the lenses they will have clear vision during waking hours without the need for glasses or any additional contact lenses. This makes it a very attractive option to people as a non-surgical alternative to laser eye surgery, people who play sports or perform jobs or other activities where glasses are cumbersome and people who have intolerance to conventional soft contact lenses and don’t want to wear glasses. shaping-the-cornea.

Unlike laser refractive surgery, the changes to the shape of the eye induced by Ortho-K are completely reversible and if lens wear is discontinued then the eye will gradually return to its original shape within 1-2 weeks. Also unlike laser refractive surgery, adjustments can be made to the lenses later down the track if the person’s prescription changes over time.

Another big benefit of Ortho-K is its proven ability to slow down the progression rate of short sightedness. This makes it a treatment for children or teenagers who are becoming short sighted. Wearing Ortho-K will slow down the rate at which their vision is becoming worse and in some cases completely stop any further changes.
